Hackers in China gain access to U.S. officials’ Gmail accounts – Hackers chineses acessam contas do Gmail de oficiais americanos

Google announced yesterday that the personal Gmail accounts of high-ranking U.S. government and military officials, including one Cabinet-level official, were accessed by hackers based in China. The security breach also struck Chinese political activists and South Korean officials. In a blog post, Google said the hackers likely used a “phishing” strategy that encouraged users to reveal their e-mail passwords. The attack reportedly originated from the Chinese city of Jinan. The FBI was notified of the incident last week, and it was unclear whether the U.S. officials had been forwarding work e-mails to their Gmail account.
